“Walkie-talkie effect” in Nuendo
Hi all.
Today I’d like to share a “walkie-talkie effect” trick. Pro Tools users will find something similar in “cosmonaut voice” plug-in, but this trick more flexible and close to famous TC Electronic’s Fireworx preset.
Here what it should sound like: result.mp3
(I’ve used a dry sample of male voice from TC VSS3 demo CD as source)
Ok. You will need pink noise track for emulating radio waves noise. You can easily generate it in Sony Sound Forge, for example.
Plugins used:
- Waves C1-sc (or any other compressor plug-in with side-chain)
- Waves Req4 (or any other plug-in with low-pass, high-pass and bell filters)
- Steinberg BitCrusher (default Nuendo plug-in)
- Waves Rvox (or any compressor you like)
1. Import your voice and generated pink noise tracks into Nuendo project. Name them “voice” and “noise” accordingly. Make sure that pink noise track is longer or equal to voice track length.
It should look something like that:
2. Create 2 Group tracks - name them “sc” and “result”. Route “voice” and “sc” outputs to “result” group.
3. Send signal (sends section, pre-fader - on) from “voice” to “sc”. Pan “noise” track 100% right and set it’s fader level about -8db.
4. Set “sc” left and right channels to center (right-click on panner -> stereo dual panner).
5. Insert Steinberg BitCrusher into “voice” first insert slot and load preset bitcrusher.fxp.
Insert Waves Rvox into “voice” second insert slot and load preset rvox_voice.fxp.
6. Insert Waves C1-sc into “sc” first insert slot and load preset c1_sc.fxp.
Insert Steinberg BitCrusher into “sc” second insert slot and load preset bitcrusher2.fxp.
7. Insert Waves Req 4 bands into “result” first insert slot and load preset req4.fxp.
Insert Waves Rvox into “result” second insert slot and load preset rvox_result.fxp.
Now press spacebar and enjoy
You may need to adjust plugins setting according to your tacks levels. This trick is just a starting point to create cool communication and old radio effects.
